Doda MLA urges educated citizens to join politics, links drug abuse to unemployment

Doda, April 28: Mehraj Malik, MLA Doda East, released after spending eight months in jail, on Tuesday, called upon educated citizens to step out of their homes and actively participate in the electoral process, asserting that their involvement is crucial to shaping the future of the region’s youth.Addressing reporters, the legislator said that the participation of the “intelligentsia” in politics is essential, as they possess the capacity to influence meaningful change.

He linked the growing issue of drug addiction among youth to rising unemployment, arguing that a lack of job opportunities has created conditions that push young people toward substance abuse.The MLA criticized the functioning of the elected government, stating that it lacks a clear policy direction.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the legislative assembly, saying the current system discourages individuals who enter politics with the intention of serving the public.

Highlighting concerns over the justice system, the legislator said that thousands of individuals are languishing in jails without adequate awareness of their court hearing dates.

He added that in several cases, family members are unable to meet detainees, raising questions about access and transparency.

Mehraj Malik further said that common people who attempt to enter politics encounter a vastly different environment, where efforts to bring change are often resisted or obstructed.

He urged citizens to stand up and collectively fight for the rights of the people.Emphasizing the transformative potential of political engagement, the MLA said that politics has the power to shape the destiny of society.

He reiterated that educated individuals should take part in governance to reduce the suffering of ordinary people.
