BARAMULLA, MAY 25: Acting on instructions from the State Drugs Controller of Jammu and Kashmir and the Deputy Drugs Controller, a team of Drug Control officers from the Baramulla and Kupwara districts, led by Assistant Drugs Controller Dr. Zaffar Ahmad Bhat, conducted inspections at around 20 retail medical shops near the old Hospital Road in Baramulla. The inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with the directives regarding the installation of CCTV cameras and the implementation of computerized billing systems. During the inspections, it was observed that there was 100% compliance with the proper functioning of CCTV cameras, and almost all the inspected firms had installed computers, with the exception of some senior or elderly chemists. However, the operations of six chemist shops were temporarily disallowed on the spot for failing to issue bill receipts to patients or customers. Subsequently, these chemists were briefed and directed to adopt a computerized billing system completely. The inspection drive aimed to promote transparency and accountability in the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring that customers receive accurate billing and that proper surveillance measures are in place to maintain high standards of service. The Drug Control Department’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to safeguarding public health and upholding ethical practices within the pharmaceutical sector. Periodic inspections and strict enforcement of regulations are vital in maintaining the integrity of the drug distribution system and fostering a culture of compliance among medical establishments.
