SRINAGAR | August 5, 2026: On the evening of 4 August 2026, a protest organized by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by Ms. Mehbooba Mufti and Ms. Iltija Mufti , was held at S.K. Park, Srinagar. During the course of the protest, a section of the demonstrators allegedly attempted to violate the imposed restrictions by blocking Residency Road and proceeding towards Lal Chowk.
Police Personnel, including adequate Male and Female contingents deployed at the spot, repeatedly appealed to the protestors to maintain peace and comply with lawful directions. Despite these efforts, a group of protestors allegedly attempted to breach the Police barricades and obstruct Police personnel deployed for the maintenance of law and order.
During the ensuing scuffle, Ms. Iltija Mufti allegedly physically assaulted a Police officer while he was discharging his lawful duties. She is further alleged to have grabbed the officer and bitten his forearm, causing a bleeding bite injury.
The injured officer was immediately shifted to the hospital, where he received preventive medical treatment, including wound management, tetanus prophylaxis,Vaccination and other protocol-based treatment considered necessary by the attending doctors.
Taking a serious view of the alleged assault on a Public servant while discharging official duties and the obstruction of lawful Police action, Srinagar Police has registered FIR No. 63/2026 at Police Station Kothibagh and initiated a comprehensive investigation.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the accused, Ms. Iltija Mufti, has been summoned to appear before Police Station Kothibagh tomorrow to join the investigation in accordance with law.
The investigation is in progress, and legal action shall be taken strictly in accordance with law against all persons found involved in the assault on Police personnel and obstruction of Public servants in the discharge of their official duties…
