From dreams to destiny: The journey of Samar Parwaiz

Budgam, October 28: In a political landscape often marked by rhetoric and routine, the rise of Samar Parwaiz — recently nominated as the State President of the Republican Party of India (RPI–Ambedkar) — brings a refreshing blend of intellect, experience, and integrity. As Budgam gears up for its by-elections, Parwaiz’s entry into active politics has drawn attention for his diverse background that bridges media, technology, and social activism.

Born in Srinagar, Samar Parwaiz began his schooling at the renowned Netaji Memorial School before moving to Jammu, where he completed his higher secondary education at DBN Vidya Mandir, Talab Tillo. His academic pursuit later took him to Mumbai, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree from SSPM College (University of Mumbai).

While studying engineering, Parwaiz simultaneously ventured into the creative industry — working in television serials, theatre productions, and advertising campaigns. His early years in Mumbai were defined by hard work and versatility. He modelled for well-known clothing brands, featured in print advertisements, and gained valuable exposure to India’s film and entertainment ecosystem. Yet his work extended beyond performance — he began using theatre as a tool to raise awareness on social issues through nukkad nataks (street plays) and stage performances at Prithvi Theatre.

His increasing engagement with public causes eventually led him to Delhi, where he was introduced to national politics. A defining chapter in his journey came through his association with Shri Chirag Paswan, now a Union Minister in the Government of India. At Delhi’s iconic 12 Janpath residence of the late Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Parwaiz frequently observed the functioning of India’s political leadership firsthand.

“Meeting Chirag Ji was an eye-opener,” Parwaiz reflects. “He helped me understand politics as a medium of service rather than a seat of power.”

Before stepping into active politics, Parwaiz built a credible reputation as a journalist, contributing to several national and local newspapers. He also continues to work with Doordarshan and has participated in multiple web series and productions that explore social and cultural narratives.

His contributions as a peace and social activist earned him significant recognition. He received the Adarsh Yuva Neta Award at the 5th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad in Pune, where veteran social reformer Anna Hazare was among the guests. He was also featured among the “Top 30 Under 30 Youth Icons of India” by Hindustan Times, highlighting his growing influence among India’s young changemakers.

Now contesting the Budgam by-elections, Parwaiz emphasizes development, transparency, and youth empowerment as the cornerstones of his political agenda. He envisions a model of governance that promotes education, employment opportunities, and infrastructural growth across Budgam, while maintaining peace and harmony at the grassroots level.

“I have seen both struggle and success in life,” says Parwaiz. “My goal is not to make promises but to deliver on them. Politics should return to its true purpose — to serve people with honesty and accountability.”

His multifaceted background — as a journalist, engineer, artist, and activist — positions him as a new-age leader capable of blending creativity with practicality, and emotion with efficiency.

As Budgam moves closer to the polls, Samar Parwaiz stands as a candidate of conviction — a face of modern leadership grounded in real-world experience and guided by compassion for people.
