GMC Baramulla Achieves Milestone with successful Laparoscopic Resection of a large Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Arising from the stomach

Baramulla, Nov 22 : In a groundbreaking surgical intervention, the team at GMC Baramulla executed a laparoscopic resection of a sizable 9×8 cm Gastric Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) in a 70-year-old female from Bandipora.
The patient, who had been experiencing early satiety, dyspeptic symptoms, and anemia, sought relief through Surgical OPD consultations. Upon evaluation ,an UGI endoscopy performed by Dr Hilal Ahmad Dar revealed a large submucosal mass consistent with a GIST which was further correlated on imaging.
Led by Dr. H. Vaqar, Head of the Surgery Department, and supported by Dr. Abid Hussain Wani, Dr. Shakeeb Nabi, and Dr. Faud, the laparoscopic procedure was completed successfully sans any eventuality.
The anesthesia team, headed by Prof Basharat Saleem, included Dr. Tehleel and their dedicated support staff.
The patient is now recovering well in the post-operative period, marking a significant step forward in the treatment of complex gastrointestinal conditions.
All the expenses of surgery were covered under the PMJAY Sehat scheme.
This successful intervention not only highlights the medical prowess of the team but also emphasizes the institutional commitment to advanced and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
The operating team thanked the Principal GMC Baramulla Professor Ruby Reshi for all the logistic support received to conduct such procedures.
