GMC Srinagar Hosts National-Level Hernia Conference with Focus on Advanced Surgical Techniques

Srinagar, July 12: Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar recently hosted a high-profile national-level conference dedicated to hernia care, featuring a two-day program that commenced with an intensive live operative workshop. Organized by the Hernia Society of India, the event showcased cutting-edge techniques in minimal access and peritoneal flap surgeries for various types of hernias.


The conference, held at the Department of Minimal Access and General Surgery, GMC Srinagar, welcomed Secretary of Health and Medical Education, Syed Abid Rashid Shah, as the chief guest. In his address, Shah underscored the importance of ongoing education and professional growth in tertiary care, highlighting the invaluable learning opportunities the event provided for young medical professionals.


Syed Abid Rashid Shah while addressing media said, “This Summit is in the spirit of continuous learning and education in tertiary care institutions, over the last few days there have been massive surgeries conducted by renowned surgeons of the country of which the Junior colleagues here have got an occasion to learn from the excellent doctors who are renowned all over the world, I think such occasions provide a great platform for learning, a great platform for exchange of ideas and skills and upgrading knowledge.”
Under the patronage of GMC’s Principal Medical College and Dean, Prof Iffat Hassan Shah, and led by Prof Iqbal Saleem Mir as the Organising Chairperson and Prof M R Attri as the Organising Secretary, the conference drew participation from esteemed surgeons nationwide. Among the luminaries were Padam Shree Pradeep Chowbey, Dr Vijay Borgaonkar, Dr Sarfaraz Baig, Dr Sumeet Shah, Dr Rajesh Khullar, and Dr Ganesh Shenoy, who conducted a series of complex surgeries throughout the day.


The event centered around the theme of comprehensive hernia care, focusing on the latest advancements in surgical techniques. It provided a pivotal platform for professional development and skills enhancement, benefiting medical practitioners and patients across Jammu & Kashmir and beyond.
