Helicopter services launched at Gulmarg to boost tourism

Gulmarg, Jan 12: In a move aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure and enhancing visitor experience, helicopter services were formally launched on Monday at the internationally renowned tourist destination of Gulmarg, officials said.

The service was inaugurated by Farooq Ahmad Shah and Salman Sagar in the presence of senior officials, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority.

Officials said the helicopter service has been introduced to provide tourists with faster and more convenient access to high altitude locations such as Sunshine Peak and the Apharwat hills, areas that are otherwise difficult to reach, especially during peak winter and adventure tourism seasons. The service is expected to add a new dimension to adventure tourism while offering panoramic aerial views of Gulmarg’s landscape.

Speaking on the occasion, the legislators said the initiative would further reinforce Gulmarg’s status as a premier tourist destination and contribute to the local economy by attracting visitors throughout the year. They said improved connectivity and innovative tourism facilities are crucial for sustaining tourism attaching both domestic and international travellers.

A notable aspect of the initiative is that the helicopter service has been started by a local youth entrepreneur, Abdul Majeed Bakhshi, popularly known as Ballu Bakhshi. Officials and public representatives lauded the initiative, describing it as a strong example of local participation and self driven entrepreneurship in the tourism sector.

Tourism officials said the service is expected to open new employment avenues, promote sustainable tourism practices and enhance Gulmarg’s appeal as a hub for both leisure and adventure tourism. [KNT]
