Sajad Lone says imperative to hold polls on time
Srinagar, July 11: Former chief minister and National Conference (NC) Vice President, Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir should be held on time and said that the polls should be delayed in case the situation is worse than 1996.
On the sidelines of the function here in Srinagar, Omar stated that there was no normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, but the elections should be held on time in order to prove the supremacy of the forces.
He added that the government should not deter and bow down before these forces, who are involved in the attacks, saying that the government should defy these odds and conduct the polls on time.
Pertinently, several other political parties and leaders too have pitched for the early assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the elected government can represent the people in a true way.
Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman, Sajad Gani Lone, said that early assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir are imperative.
“It is imperative that Assembly elections are held on time. I honestly believe that only an administration accountable to the people of J and K has the right to rule and administer J and K. Let my worst electoral rival be elected. I will million times prefer that government to an alien government which is deluded to believe that they are stakeholders and have political and social sanctity. They don’t. They never will. Not here. Not in any part of India will a non-resident government be acceptable. Will those who are at the helm of affairs here accept non-resident governments in their own states,” Lone wrote on X.
“A humble appeal to the GOI. End this pain. Stop behaving like an individual. And start behaving like an institution. First give statehood back. Not as a matter of charity. But as a matter of right. Hold elections and handover everything to the new government. Good or bad. People will elect. And elected will rule. As in the rest of the country. No government is perfect. No government will be perfect. With all its imperfections like in other states let the new elected government assume office. Stop giving an impression that you are at war with your own people in J and K,” he wrote.
