Jammu, August 23, 2024 – The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu hosted a successful National Space Day event, bringing together students, faculty members, and space enthusiasts for a day filled with insightful discussions and activities focused on space research and innovation.
National Space Day is being celebrated to commemorate the successful landing of the ‘Vikram’ Lander on the surface of the Moon on August 23, 2023. Theme: ” Touching Lives While Touching The Moon: India’s Space Saga”
The event was marked by an inspiring Keynote Session delivered by Dr. S. Pandian, the former Director of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), ISRO. Dr. Pandian, a renowned expert in the field, shared his extensive knowledge on India’s space missions, providing the audience with a deep understanding of the challenges and achievements that have positioned India as a leader in global space exploration. His talk covered the innovative solutions developed by ISRO and the future prospects of space technology in India.
The Former director of SDSC- Sahar, ISRO, highlighted India’s remarkable advancements in the space sector. From the successful Mars mission with limited resources to launching over a hundred satellites simultaneously, India has achieved significant milestones. He emphasized that the privatization of the space sector has fostered a surge in startups, not only driving progress in space research but also providing opportunities for young people to showcase their talents. Notably, an Indian company recently achieved a groundbreaking feat by successfully launching a single-piece 3D printed semi-cryogenic engine-powered rocket.
Following the keynote, participants had the opportunity to engage in informal discussions during the High Tea session, where ideas and insights were exchanged among attendees. The session fostered a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging students to explore the possibilities of future contributions to space research.
The event also featured an interactive Space Quiz that tested the knowledge of participants on topics ranging from fundamental astronomy to the intricacies of space missions. The quiz was a highlight of the day, with enthusiastic participation and a competitive spirit that made the experience both educational and enjoyable.
Winners of the Space Quiz and other contributors to the event were recognized during the Prize Distribution ceremony, celebrating their achievements and contributions.
