India evacuates 1,777 nationals from Iran

MEA monitoring situation round-the-clock

New Delhi, Apr 06: The Government of India on Monday said that the safety and welfare of Indian nationals in West Asia remains its top priority, as it continues evacuation and monitoring efforts amid the evolving regional situation.
During an inter-ministerial briefing, officials said that 1,777 Indians have been moved out of Iran through Armenia and Azerbaijan for onward travel to India. This includes 895 students and 345 fishermen.

The Ministry of External Affairs is maintaining a 24×7 control room and coordinating closely with Indian missions, which are providing assistance ranging from visa facilitation to logistical support and transit arrangements.
Officials said that despite airspace restrictions, evacuation routes have been established through neighbouring countries, while flights continue from select locations under controlled operations.
In the maritime sector, all Indian seafarers in the region are reported safe, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels. Currently, 16 such vessels with 433 Indian crew members remain in the Persian Gulf region.
Authorities said that over 1,599 seafarers have been repatriated so far, while port operations across India continue without disruption.
The government said it remains in constant touch with regional partners, with External Affairs Minister holding discussions with counterparts from Qatar, UAE and Iran to assess the situation and ensure safety of Indian citizens.
