J&K Govt  Eyes High-End Tourism Boost, Land Hunt for 5-Star Hotels Begins

Srinagar, May 30: In a significant move aimed at augmenting high-end tourism infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territory administration has accorded sanction for the constitution of district-level committees tasked with identifying suitable land parcels for the establishment of 5-star hotels across the region.

As per an official order issued today, these committees will comprise the respective Deputy Commissioners as Chairpersons and the concerned Chief Town Planners as members. Their key mandate will be to scout for state land, forest land, private land or any other suitable patches having the potential and feasibility for setting up premium hotel projects while considering crucial factors like accessibility, availability of basic infrastructure like water, electricity, and road connectivity.

The terms of reference specifically direct these committees to thoroughly assess and submit proposals through the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu/Kashmir to the Tourism Department in a prescribed proforma, outlining complete details about the identified land parcels.
This development assumes immense significance as J&K has long grappled with a shortage of high-end hospitality options, despite being bestowed with unparalleled natural splendor, rich cultural heritage, and a vibrant hospitality tradition. Consequently, the region has often struggled to attract premium tourists and capitalize on its full tourism potential.
“Quality accommodation is the backbone of any flourishing tourism ecosystem. This well-conceived initiative by the J&K administration could prove to be a game-changer, helping the UT unlock fresh investment opportunities and cement its status as a world-class destination,” remarked a hotelier..
Market analysts and industry experts have welcomed the move, stating that a judicious identification of land remains the crucial first step before other statutory approvals and clearances can be sought for developing 5-star hotel properties. They believe that a robust influx of premium hospitality brands could have a multiplier effect, generating enhanced revenue streams and creating ample employment opportunities for the local populace.
“J&K’s mesmerizing landscapes, coupled with its unique cultural and spiritual heritage, have all the ingredients to be a thriving hub for luxury tourism. However, the lack of world-class hospitality infrastructure has been a perennial impediment. If implemented effectively, this initiative could be a much-needed catalyst in bridging that gap,” opined Radhika Kapoor, a travel writer and hospitality industry analyst.
As the district-level committees begin their mandated tasks, all eyes will be on the identified land parcels and the subsequent steps taken by the administration to facilitate the establishment of 5-star hotels, ushering in a new era of high-end tourism in the picturesque Union Territory.
