Khelo India:Athletes arrive to a traditional reception at Srinagar Airport

Sarmad Hafeez receives first contingent, hopes the games would inspire more youngsters to take up winter sports

Srinagar, 19-Feb: The participant athletes of Khelo India Winter Games were given a traditional Kashmiri reception today on their arrival at Srinagar Airport.

The athletes are scheduled to participate in the 4th edition of Khelo India Winter Games at ski destination Gulmarg from February 21 to 25.

Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez received the athletes on the occasion. He said that all the necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the games.

He said that the games will be held in adherence to the Covid-19 protocols and guidelines, and that the health and safety of the participants and officials will be given utmost priority.

Sarmad Hafeez also said that the games will be a great opportunity for the athletes to experience the facilities and infrastructure at Gulmarg, which has recently hosted several national and international skiing events. He expressed hope that the games will inspire more youngsters to take up winter sports and bring laurels to the country.

Enroute the venue, the athletes were served kehwa to feel warmth amid heavy downpour and cherish the blend of Kashmiri hospitality. The athletes enjoyed the snowflakes that ads to the charm of winters in Kashmir.

This year, over 800 participants shall be competing in various winter sports such as snowboarding, alpine skiing, nordic skiing, and ski mountaineering.

The athletes expressed their excitement and enthusiasm for the games. They said that they are looking forward to competing with their peers and enjoying the scenic beauty of Gulmarg.

They also thanked the government and the organizers for providing them with this opportunity and for making all the arrangements for their travel and stay.
