LD Hospital Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Maternity Care

Srinagar, July 20: The Government Medical College Srinagar’s Lalla Ded Hospital has strongly refuted recent allegations of mismanagement, asserting its dedication to providing quality maternity health services. Hospital authorities have addressed specific cases that sparked controversy and provided data to demonstrate their high patient load and efficient handling of cases.
Responding to claims about a patient from Bandipora, hospital officials clarified that all patients, especially those referred from other facilities, are promptly attended to in the Emergency Room. Patients are then appropriately assigned to the Labour Room or High Dependency Unit under constant supervision of medical staff, including senior doctors and consultants.

The hospital explained that in the case of Saima Banoo (name changed), standard protocols were followed, resulting in a normal delivery with both mother and baby in good health. Officials emphasized that labour typically takes 12-18 hours and that some pain is normal during this process.
Regarding another reported case of a patient allegedly leaving for private treatment, the hospital’s Medical Records Department found no evidence of any patient departing without receiving care.
Lalla Ded Hospital, the primary tertiary care maternity facility for Kashmir Valley and surrounding regions, highlighted its significant patient load. Over a recent four-day period, the hospital attended to 2,780 outpatients, admitted 447 patients, performed 204 cesarean sections, conducted 82 normal deliveries, and carried out 60 other surgeries.
Hospital authorities noted that of 106 recent referrals, only 25 were deemed necessary, suggesting that the facility is often burdened with cases that could be handled at lower-level healthcare centers.
Despite the high volume of patients, the hospital maintains its commitment to prioritizing high-risk cases and providing quality care through its dedicated medical and paramedical staff.
The administration reiterated its dedication to improving maternity health services, emphasizing the trust placed in the institution by patients from across the region.
This report aims to present the hospital’s perspective on recent allegations and showcase its efforts in managing a high patient load while striving to maintain quality care.
