Male/New Delhi, June 8 : Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar presented the letter of invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his swearing-in ceremony to Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu during a courtesy call at the President’s Office.
President Muizzu has accepted the invitation, to the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers of the Government of India, a statement from the Maldivian President’s Office said.
President Muizzu expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the invitation, adding that he would be honored to attend this historic event.
The President thanked the High Commissioner for personally delivering the invitation.
This will mark President Muizzu, who is widely seen as pro-China, first official visit to India since assuming office on November 17 last year.
Muizzu, who came to office riding on the back of the ‘India Out’ campaign, had demanded the removal of Indian military personnel from his country upon taking over. Following high-level talks between two sides, the Indian military personnel manning the three aviation platforms were withdrawn and replaced by civilians from India by May 10.(UNI)
