Meet Kashmiri leaf artist who created smallest painting of Holy Kabba, Masjid Nabawi

Srinagar, Aug 01: Since childhood, Mudassir Rehman Dar has been interested in making paintings. For years, the self-taught artist has been making abstract paintings. He also created the smallest painting of the Holy Kabba and Masjid Nabawi on a ring and a leaf which earned his recognition at the local and national level.

“I am the first artist from Kashmir to be featured in Asia and Indian Book of Records and my work has been recognized in various countries,” he told Morning Kashmir.

Through leaf art, the 28-year-old artist has made portraits of Alama Iqbal, Mahatma Gandhi, APJ Abul Kalam, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Mother Teresa and many more.

“By leaf art, I want to promote greenery and create awareness about planting of trees and conservation of environment,” he said, who is a resident of Kulpora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

He has his parents, two daughters, wife and sister in the family. “I earn very little through painting and other labouring works. Had I received some support from the government, I would have taken this art to a different level. I want a platform where I can showcase my talent,” he said.

Wherever Dar gets an opportunity to showcase his talent he goes there. He is also sharing his paintings on various social media platforms.

“I do participate in exhibitions so my talent reaches the world,” he said, who has studied upto class 12th and also did a short term course in painting. He also learnt from some renowned artists of the valley.

In 2020, Dar bagged the award for promoting art and culture. He has received many certificates for his outstanding artwork.

In 2021, he became the first person from the valley to feature in the Asian Book of Records and Indian Book of Records for his abstract art.
