Awantipora, June 05: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday visited the under-construction All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) site at Awantipora and reviewed the progress of the ongoing work.
During the visit, Mehbooba Mufti was accompanied by MLA Tral Rafiq Ahmad Naik and MLA Pulwama Waheed Ur Rehman Parra. The leaders inspected various sections of the project and received a detailed briefing from officials regarding the pace of construction and the expected timeline for its completion.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Mehbooba Mufti said that the establishment of AIIMS at Awantipora was a dream project of the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who had envisioned a world-class healthcare institution for the people of South Kashmir. She expressed hope that the dream would soon be realized with the timely completion and commissioning of the prestigious medical institute.
Mufti urged the government and the concerned authorities to ensure that local youth are given due preference in Class-IV and other employment opportunities arising from the institution. She stressed that the project should not only strengthen healthcare infrastructure but also contribute to the economic well-being of the local population through job creation.
She further said that the AIIMS project holds immense significance for the region and is expected to transform the healthcare landscape of Jammu and Kashmir by providing advanced medical facilities closer to the people. According to her, the institution will reduce the need for patients to travel outside the Union Territory for specialized treatment and will also boost educational and research opportunities in the medical sector.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved so far, Mehbooba Mufti hoped that the project would be completed without any further delays and would emerge as a catalyst for overall development in Awantipora and the adjoining areas.
The AIIMS Awantipora project is regarded as one of the most significant healthcare infrastructure initiatives in Kashmir and is expected to provide state-of-the-art medical services, medical education, and employment opportunities upon its completion.
