MLA Hasnain Masoodi, Director School Education Visit Lethpora, Kakapora; Assure Rs 4 Crore Double-Storey School Building at Lethpora

PAMPORE, September 16: MLA Pampore, Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi, along with Director School Education, G.N. Itoo, visited the Pampore Constituency. Chief Education Officer Pulwama and other officials also accompanied the delegation.

During the visit, the team inspected the unsafe building of Lethpora Higher Secondary School and interacted with the school staff and local residents. The locals raised several concerns and demands related to the school infrastructure as well as the overall academic environment.

MLA Hasnain Masoodi assured the people that a new double-storey building, costing around Rs 4 crore, will be constructed to provide students with safe and improved educational facilities, ensuring that children do not face any kind of inconvenience.
The MLA and the Director also visited the flood-affected Boys Higher Secondary School Kakapora. They thoroughly reviewed the school’s building and infrastructure while listening to public demands, which included repairs, reconstruction of another school building, earth filling, and boundary wall construction.

Residents highlighted that both students and staff are currently facing severe hardships due to the existing conditions. The authorities assured them that all genuine demands would be taken seriously and addressed on a priority basis to provide a safe and improved learning environment for students.

Speaking to Morning Kashmir, Director School Education G.N. Itoo said that today we visited Higher Secondary School Lethpora and Higher Secondary School Kakapora. Whatever issues these buildings have, we will try to resolve them in a time-bound manner. The problems were addressed on the spot, and decisions were taken accordingly. If there is a need to take any further decisions, we will do that as well.

Speaking to Morning Kashmir, MLA Pampore, Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi, said that the school building of Lethpora Higher Secondary School, where activities are currently ongoing, has been declared unsafe few years back. The government has approved rupees 4 crore for the construction of a new building, the Director of School Education visited the site, and I was present with him. The main issue was that the unsafe building should be demolished, and a new building should be constructed in its place. After discussing with teachers and local residents, it was decided that the new building will be constructed in the front site first, and later the unsafe building will be demolished.

He said that the local issues related to infrastructure and fencing were also discussed. The Director of School Education, Chief Education Officer Pulwama, and ZEO Pampore were present at the spot. One benefit of this visit is that it will help in the development works of the Higher Secondary School.

He along with Director School Education also visited Kakapora Higher Secondary School, and it was noted that in both 2014 and 2025, this higher secondary school was affected by floods, with the entire school submerged in floodwater. Now, we have to plan both short-term and long-term measures for it. In the short term, fumigation and earth filling need to be done. In the long term, two double-story buildings should be constructed so that there is no risk of flooding in the future. A project will be developed for this purpose so that two-story buildings can be constructed there. Both schools are doing good work. Lethpora Higher Secondary School has around 300 students enrolled, and Kakapora has about 400 students. The staff of these higher secondary schools is also performing well. In this context, we carried out the visit today, and the Director of School Education, G.N. Itoo, showed strong commitment, as he has shown in the past, to ensure that these institutions do not face infrastructure problems, power shortages, or other facility-related issues. It was a very fruitful visit.
