PAMPORE, April 22: MLA Pampore, Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi on Wednesday visited the Estate Water Supply Scheme at Khankahbagh in saffron town Pampore to review the progress of ongoing works.
The recently sanctioned scheme aims to ensure a reliable and adequate supply of drinking water to residents of Estate Quarters and adjoining areas, including Frestabal, Noorani Colony and other nearby localities.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department Pampore, Mudasir Ahmad Untoo, along with other officials, was present during the visit.
During the inspection, the MLA conducted a detailed review of both the pace and quality of the work being executed. He directed officials of the PHE Department to expedite the project and ensure its timely completion. Emphasising the importance of maintaining high standards, Masoodi said all works must strictly adhere to prescribed norms to provide safe and sustainable drinking water to the public.
He further instructed the concerned department to maintain close monitoring of the project and provide regular progress updates to keep the public informed.
Besides reviewing the water supply scheme, the MLA also inspected ongoing work on the bunds of the Jhelum River at Drangbal.
The visit reflects the MLA’s commitment to strengthening essential infrastructure and addressing the basic needs of people in his constituency.
Speaking to Morning Kashmir, MLA Pampore retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi said that work on the Khankahbagh Water Supply Scheme will commence shortly. The project, estimated at a cost of ₹7.50 crore, is expected to add an additional capacity of 250 lakh gallons to Pampore’s water supply system and is likely to be completed by September.
He appreciated the efforts of Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Department Pampore, Mudasir Ahmad Untoo, stating that the project marks an important milestone for the town. Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0), several improvements have already been made in Pampore, significantly enhancing water supply capacity.
Masoodi also revealed that a separate water supply scheme is being planned for Pulpar and Kadlabal areas of Pampore. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been prepared for the project, estimated to cost around ₹7.50 crore. He expressed hope that the DPR would soon receive approval and be sanctioned.
The new Khankahbagh water scheme will benefit several areas, including Khankahbagh, Frestabal, Government Estate Quarters and nearby residential colonies such as Barkat Colony. He noted that residents of Khankahbagh had long faced serious water supply issues, which the project aims to resolve.
Masoodi emphasised that Pampore will no longer remain neglected, stating that the era of ignoring the town over the past two decades has ended. Development works are now being undertaken across multiple sectors, including healthcare, road infrastructure and flood protection measures. Work on the banks of the Jhelum River has also begun, which is expected to provide significant relief to local residents and improve overall living conditions in the region.
