Srinagar, Sep 17: Security measures have been significantly heightened around the Sher-e-Kashmir park in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming election rally, scheduled for Thursday. Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi confirmed on Tuesday that a multi-tier security arrangement has been implemented in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure for VVIP visits.
This rally marks a significant moment as it will be Modi’s first campaign event for BJP candidates in Kashmir before the Union territory’s assembly elections later this month. The venue’s proximity to the iconic Lal Chowk clock tower, being within a kilometre, adds to its strategic importance.
Officials report that security personnel have been deployed in large numbers along routes leading to the rally site. Police and paramilitary forces have intensified random vehicle checks at numerous locations, with special checkpoints established. Additionally, security forces have increased patrols around the venue as part of an area domination exercise.
The extensive security measures underscore the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit and the authorities’ commitment to ensuring a safe and smooth conduct of the rally in this politically sensitive region.
