NC gears up for assembly polls, begins 2-day working committee meet

Srinagar, July 3: The regional National Conference (NC) has finally started preparations for the upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir as the party began a two-day Working Committee meeting on Wednesday.
On the first day of the meeting, the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah along with other leaders including its vice president Omar Abdullah and others were present at Nawa-e-Subha.

Sources privy to the development told Morning Kashmir that the chair discussed several issues, especially the upcoming the assembly polls, adding that the leaders were asked to hold meetings with the workers in their respective constituencies and blocks to strengthen the party at grassroots level.
“The recent performance in the Lok Sabha polls was also discussed. It was impressed upon the participants that more hard work needs to be done for the upcoming assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir so that the party will get the majority of the seats to form the next dispensation here,” they divulged.
The party insiders also stated that the constituency heads were asked to meet the block and zone committees to prepare for the upcoming assembly polls.
Pertinently, the party got a major vote share in the recently held Lok Sabha polls. The party secured two seats including Srinagar and Anantnag-Rajouri. From Srinagar, NC’s Aga Ruhullah Mehdi defeated his close rival and PDP candidate Waheed Parra and Mian Altaf Larvi defeated his close rival Mehbooba Mufti in Anantnag-Rajouri seat.
It is worth mentioning here that on Monday, a party spokesman had said the meeting will address a variety of issues affecting both the public and the party, with a special focus on preparations for the upcoming assembly election.
NC has also constituted a manifesto Committee for the upcoming assembly election which will be led by senior party member and former Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather.
The committee has been tasked with presenting a draft of the manifesto within 45 days, the party spokesman had said.
