Nearly 2 lakh projects completed in JK UT in four years

SRINAGAR, OCT 28: Over the course of four years since the transition of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory, a staggering number of nearly 2 lakh development projects have been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in the region’s progress and transformation, officials informed.
The historic move to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate it into two Union Territories, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, took place on October 31, 2019.
The government believes that since then, the region has witnessed remarkable growth and development in various sectors, from infrastructure to healthcare, education, and tourism.
One of the top officials in the government said that the projects undertaken during this period have been instrumental in bringing about positive change, improving the standard of living, and fostering economic development in the region.
“These initiatives have touched the lives of millions of residents and are a testament to the government’s commitment to the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Elaborating on the details, the official said that the construction of new roads, bridges, and tunnels has significantly improved connectivity within the region. The Zojila Tunnel, the world’s longest bi-directional tunnel, is one such project that has reduced travel time and improved access to Ladakh.
“The Union Territory administration has focused on education and skill development, with the establishment of numerous schools, colleges, and vocational training centers. This has enabled the youth to acquire the necessary skills for better job opportunities. The healthcare sector has witnessed a significant boost with the establishment of new hospitals, healthcare centers, and the recruitment of medical professionals. These developments have enhanced healthcare services and made quality healthcare more accessible,” he said.
The natural beauty and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir have been promoted extensively. Initiatives like ‘Khelo India’ and ‘J&K Tourism Policy’ have attracted tourists, boosting the local economy.
According to officials, various agricultural reforms have been implemented to enhance productivity and income for farmers. Schemes such as ‘PM-Kisan’ have provided financial support to agricultural communities. “The region’s digital infrastructure has seen a significant upgrade, with the expansion of high-speed internet services. This has not only connected people with the world but also facilitated e-governance and digital literacy,” they said.
The residents of Jammu and Kashmir have expressed their gratitude for the government’s proactive measures. Many see these completed projects as a source of hope and a brighter future for the region.
Local leaders and activists have lauded the progress but also emphasized the need for continued efforts to address issues related to unemployment and regional disparities.
“The completion of nearly 2 lakh projects over the course of four years represents a significant achievement in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory. The region has come a long way in terms of development, infrastructure, and the overall well-being of its people. As the Union Territory continues to grow and evolve, these milestones are a reminder of the progress that can be achieved through dedicated efforts and strategic planning,” one of the local BJP leaders said.
He added that this achievement is not only a testament to the government’s commitment to the region but also a testament to the resilience and determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have been an integral part of this transformative journey towards a brighter future.
