SRINAGAR, DEC 30: As the curtain falls on 2023, the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is orchestrating a spectacular New Year’s celebration amidst the enchanting landscapes of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg—three jewels in Kashmir’s crown.

The stage is set for a mesmerizing experience as the department brings together renowned Kashmiri performers to usher in 2024 with a bang.

Gulmarg, adorned with snow-clad peaks and vibrant meadows, takes the spotlight for the New Year festivities. Aabha Hanjura, Adil Gurezi, and Afaq Shafi, distinguished Kashmiri singers, are set to grace the iconic Gulmarg Golf Course with their performances. Laser sound and light shows, coupled with a musical night, promise an unforgettable welcome to the New Year.

Gulmarg’s hotels, nestled in the meadow of flowers and known for its snow-clad peaks, are witnessing full occupancy. Aabha Hanjura celebrated for the hit “Hukus Bukus,” and Adil Gurezi, renowned for “Dupt’e Nyunem Dal ki Wawan,” shared their excitement in promotional videos. Afaq Shafi, an Indian Idol audition standout, is poised to enthral the Gulmarg audience.

Pahalgam, typically a summer retreat, transforms into a winter wonderland for the New Year celebrations. Kashmiri artists Ishfaq Kawa, IBM Band, Rasik, and Kohinoor Band will perform at the Pahalgam Club. The globally prominent IBM Band, consisting of Irfan, Bilal, and Mehmeet, will showcase the rich musical heritage of Kashmir. Sonmarg, a winter haven, adds to the festivities with live music and ice skating, ensuring a memorable celebration.

A senior Tourism Department official said that with expectations of a surge in tourist arrivals, the Tourism Department has meticulously organised these events. The year 2023 has been a success for Kashmir’s tourism sector, recording 1.65 million tourist arrivals in Gulmarg alone, with an average daily footfall of 5,000. The iconic Gulmarg Gondola, Asia’s highest cable car, has remained a major attraction, providing breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. As the New Year approaches, the Tourism Department and hoteliers have made special arrangements, focusing on safety measures, crowd control, and overall guest satisfaction. The upcoming celebration in Jammu and Kashmir’s picturesque landscapes promises a harmonious blend of cultural richness and natural beauty, inviting travellers to immerse themselves in the magic of the region.
