No place for indiscipline; J&K BJP on retired IPS officer Basant Rath’s plan to join the party

Jammu, Aug 10: Hours after prematurely retired IPS officer registered himself as a member of BJP online after having made his plans public to fight elections on the party’s ticket in Jammu and Kashmir, the local unit of the national party on Thursday said “there is no place for indiscipline” in its ranks.
Rath, a 2000-batch IPS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, was retired prematurely in “public interest” – over three years after he was placed under suspension for “repeated instances of gross misconduct and misbehavior”.
Taking to twitter, the former IGP-rank officer shared a screen shot to announce his online registration as a member of BJP.
“Anyone can join as a member of the BJP, using an online facility. It is the party leadership which finally takes a call whether the individual is inducted or given any responsibility in the party,” BJP J&K chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi said.
However, he said “In BJP, there is no place for indiscipline. He (Rath) has been retired prematurely because of indiscipline.” PTI TAS SKL
