Omar shifts gears, promises populist agenda for J&K Assembly Polls

Srinagar, Mar 26: The former chief minister of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state and National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the issues related to the basic amenities to the people will be taken up in August when the assembly polls will be conducted.
Speaking over the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Omar said that he has not stepped down as chief minister but still he has been arrested. “Issuing orders and arresting the chief minister is not good for democracy and the country as well,” he said.

“Since the situation is so, we need to fight against it,” Omar said.
Furthermore, Omar while addressing the party leaders at Nawa-e-Subha today, this time the party is not going to talk about the basic amenities as the assembly elections are slated to be held in August, which would be apt time for raising such issues.
“We will deliberate on the people, who will get free electricity, tariff waive off, free land, employment policies and also about the way of bringing the special package for the 50 per cent of women,” he said.
Pertinently, NC has stated that it will contest from all the seats of the Kashmir division in the upcoming parliamentary elections, slated to be held on April 19 while the counting of votes will be done on June 04.
The voting in three seats of the Kashmir division including Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar and Baramulla is slated on May 07, May 13 and May 20 respectively.
