Today on 23.11.2024, one day Workshop on Investigation of Special cases (UAPA and NDPS) was organised by Range Police Headquarters North Kashmir at District Police Lines Baramulla. The workshop was conducted under the supervision of DIG North Kashmir Range Shri Maqsood Ul Zaman-IPS in collaboration with the Prosecution department and retired Police Officers.
Many Guest speakers were invited for sharing their knowledge and experience which include Shri Mohd Ashraf Bakhshi (DDP Baramulla), Shri Gulzar Ahmad (CPO DPO Baramulla), Shri Rafi Ahmad Mir (CPO UAPA Court Baramulla), Shri Ghulam Haider Badhana (Rtd. SSP), Shri Rafiq Ahmad Vakil (Rtd. SSP), Shri Shabir Ahmad Shah (Rtd.
Dy.SP) and Shri Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh (Rtd. Dy.SP). Investigating officers which include GO’s and NGO’s from districts of North Kashmir attended the workshop. DIG NKR Shri Maqsood Ul Zaman-IPS in his Inaugural speech welcomed all the participants and briefed them that the objective of organizing the workshop is to enhance and polish the investigation skills of Officers and updating their knowledge on the SOPs to be adopted during investigation of Special Cases like UAPA & NDPS. DIG NKR impressed upon all the stakeholders viz Investigating Officers and Public Prosecutors to ensure maximum conviction in UAPA/NDPS cases. He further said that as Police Officers, our role under the law is multifaceted as we are tasked with investigating narcotics related crimes and unlawful activities, collecting intelligence on these illegal activities & networks, executing seizures and ensuring the safe handling of evidences. Although the challenges are immense as these activities are often well organized and dynamic in nature but as a Police Officer, we need to withstand the test of time in the interest of Society and Nation at large.
Acquittals and securing bail in heinous offences create a sense of insecurity in the society and undermine the faith of common man in administration and justice system. Hence Professional investigation by the officers plays an important role in qualitative prosecution of UAPA/NDPS cases. While concluding his speech, DIGP NKR hoped that work experiences and knowledge shared during this workshop by the Officers from prosecution department and retired Police Officers will help the serving Investigating Officers in their future assignments related to investigation of special cases and this effort on our part will pave the way forward in accomplishing the desired results at organizational and social level.
Moreover, Guest Speakers from the Prosecution Department and Retired Police Officers had discussions and brain storming sessions with the participants during the event which led to clearance of many confusions and lacunas being observed during the investigation and court conviction processes. DIG NKR expressed his gratitude for their services and the time given by them for making the workshop successful.
