A one-week Basic Disaster Management Course was conducted for students of the University of Jammu under the guidance and supervision of Shri Mohd Aslam, IPS, Commandant, SDRF Jammu, with the objective of enhancing their knowledge and practical skills in disaster preparedness, emergency response and rescue operations.
The course comprised lectures, practical demonstrations, outdoor exercises and hands-on training covering first aid, fire safety, search and rescue, evacuation procedures, air strike response, early warning systems and emergency preparedness.
As part of the practical exposure, students visited the NDRF Company at CTI, Kot Bhalwal, where they were briefed on disaster response techniques and specialised rescue equipment. A boat and water rescue exercise was also conducted at the Tawi River, Bajalta, providing students practical training in boat handling, improvised floating devices, equipment handling and flood-response measures.
Closing Ceremony
The course concluded with a formal closing ceremony attended by Shri Mohd Aslam, IPS, Commandant, SDRF; Professor S.K. Pandita, Director, Disaster Management, University of Jammu; Dr. Yudhvir Singh, Professor, University of Jammu; GOs rank of SDRF and other officers and officials of SDRF
DySP Lalit Kumar delivered the Welcome Address, DySP Rohit Dev Singh presented the Course Overview, while DySP Dinesh Gupta presented the Course Report and highlighted the significance of Early Warning Systems in disaster preparedness and response.
Professor S.K. Pandita appreciated the efforts of the Commandant, SDRF Jammu and the entire SDRF team for providing the students with valuable practical exposure. Commandant, SDRF delivered the Closing Address and emphasised the importance of preparedness, timely response and community participation in disaster management.
Certificates were distributed among the participants on successful completion of the course. The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by DySP Rohit Dev Singh.
The course was successfully completed with the active participation of the students and the dedicated efforts of the SDRF team, University faculty and supporting staff.
