Parched Paradise: J&K’s Monsoon Misses by Miles

Srinagar, July 12: While Monsoon season is known for the rainfall and thundershowers, Jammu and Kashmir has not witnessed any effect so far as the Union Territory has recorded a deficient rainfall of 35 percent.
According to the details available, till July 10, the data prepared by the Meteorological department has shown that Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a deficient rainfall of 35 percent with Poonch, Kulgam and Kishtwar recording large deficient rainfall upto 95 percent from June 01, 2024 to July 10, 2024.

The details reveal that Anantnag, Budgam, Bandipora, Doda, Ganderbal, Kathua, Kupwara, Pulwama, Ramban, Shopian and Srinagar have recorded a deficient rainfall of 20 to 59 percent.
However, five places have recorded normal precipitation during the period. The stations include Baramulla, Jammu, Rajouri, Reasi and Samba.
Nevertheless, a local Meteorological department here had predicted intermittent precipitation from July 12, however, the majority of areas continued to witness dry weather, thereby showing the least impact of Monsoon winds in Jammu and Kashmir.
There is a forecast of more rains during the next one week with the weatherman expecting a brief spell of rains intermittently.
From July 13 to July 15, a brief spell of rain and thundershower is expected at scattered places while a brief spell of rain and thundershower is expected at isolated places on July 16 and July 17, the forecast reads.
From July 18 to July 20, a brief spell of rain and thundershower is expected at scattered places, it added.
