PM Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule

New Delhi, Apr 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday paid rich tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice, and education.

The Prime Minister remarked that Mahatma Phule was a pioneer in championing the rights of women and the marginalised, ensuring that education became a powerful instrument of empowerment through his efforts.

Modi noted that this year marks the significant commencement of the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of the great reformer.

To commemorate the occasion, the Prime Minister penned an article sharing how Mahatma Phule remains a guiding light for several people and how his emphasis on education, learning, and the welfare of all remains deeply relevant in today’s age.

Modi further prayed that his thoughts continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress.

CM Omar hails SKUAST-K for Gucchi breakthrough

SRINAGAR, APRIL 11: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) for achieving a significant scientific breakthrough in the research and advancement of Morel (Gucchi) mushrooms.

The Chief Minister, who is also Pro-Chancellor of the university, lauded the university’s remarkable accomplishment, stating that the breakthrough reflects SKUAST-K’s unwavering commitment to scientific excellence and the promotion of high-value natural resources.

Highlighting the broader impact of the research, the Chief Minister noted that the development holds immense potential for enhancing livelihoods, particularly in mountainous and rural regions where Morel mushrooms are both an economic asset and an integral part of traditional heritage.

He emphasized that the university’s efforts are poised to open new avenues for sustainable cultivation, value addition, and increased income generation.

The Chief Minister also placed on record his special appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the scientists involved in the research.

Conveying his best wishes, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the entire SKUAST-K fraternity, including its scientists and researchers, will continue to excel in future endeavours and contribute meaningfully to agricultural innovation and rural prosperity.

8 peddlers held across Kashmir

Srinagar, April 11: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Police achieved major success by arresting eight drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag, Baramulla & Budgam and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

In Shangus, a raid at the residence of Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh. Rasool Sheikh resident of Patti Sheikhpora led to the arrest of Riyaz Sheikh and Aadil Latif son of Mohd Latif resident of Doudpora Brah, with recovery of approximately 5.75 kg of Ganja. 

Similarly, at Sangam Chowk, Saqib Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Mohd Lone, resident of Natipora Sangam, was arrested along with 140 grams of charas. Moreover, a police party during naka checking at Bumzoo KP Road arrested Reyaz Ahmad Mochi son of Ali Mohd Mochi resident of New Colony Mattan alongwith 5.24 kg of charas powder. Besides, in Uttrasoo, a raid at the residence of Ajaz Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Hassan resident of Cheerpora resulted in recovery of 2.225 kg of Ganja.

Additionally, acting on reliable information, a case FIR No. 23/2026 was registered against Gh. Mohidin Sheikh son of Khazir Mohammad Sheikh resident of Manzigam regarding hoarding of contraband substance at his residential house.

Accordingly, a search warrant was obtained from the Judicial Magistrate, and in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, a search of his residential tin shed led to the recovery of approximately 17.27 kg of crushed Charas‑like substance (Bhang Bhoosa) and 23 grams of charas pieces.

In Baramulla, police recovered a significant quantity of contraband during investigation of FIR No. 78/2026. Acting on the disclosure of accused Muzaffar Ahmad Dar resident of Hanjiwera, a search was conducted at a tin shed belonging to his brother Mohd Altaf Dar. During the search, a nylon bag containing 4.3Kgs of charas-like substance was recovered.

In Budgam, a police party of Police Post Hardpanzoo arrested a drug peddler identified as Rehan Ahmed Bhat son of Gh Ahmad Bhat resident of Dachan Beerwah. During the search, 28 grams of Charas-like substance in stick form wrapped in corn husk, was recovered from his possession.

All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

Police reiterates its firm resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and appeals to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling.
