New Delhi, Apr 18: The Government of India on Saturday said it is maintaining a high level of preparedness across key sectors amid the evolving situation in West Asia, assuring uninterrupted fuel supply, normal port operations and continued support to Indian nationals in the region.According to an official statement, there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in the country, and citizens have been advised against panic buying.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said domestic LPG, PNG and CNG supplies are being maintained at 100 per cent, with priority given to households and essential sectors such as hospitals and education.Since March 23, over 17.25 lakh 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders have been sold, while PSU oil companies have reported a 70 per cent rise in auto LPG sales, particularly in states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rajasthan and West Bengal. Additionally, 22 states and Union Territories are receiving extra commercial LPG allocations linked to PNG expansion reforms.
The government has also stepped up enforcement to curb hoarding and black marketing. Over 2,500 raids were conducted on April 17, leading to seizure of more than 750 cylinders. Oil marketing companies have penalised 263 LPG distributors and suspended 67.Despite global volatility, all refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude stocks, and retail fuel outlets are functioning normally. The Centre has also reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre to shield consumers from rising crude prices.
On the maritime front, authorities confirmed that port operations across India remain normal with no congestion and all Indian seafarers in the region are safe. Over 2,487 seafarers have been repatriated so far.Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs said Indian missions are working round-the-clock to assist nationals.
The Indian Embassy in Iran has facilitated the evacuation of 2,373 Indians to Armenia and Azerbaijan for onward travel home.The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring energy security, supply stability and the safety of Indian citizens amid the ongoing geopolitical developments.
