Jammu, Sep 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a high-stakes election rally in Doda district of the Chenab Valley on Saturday, marking his first campaign appearance in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. The rally, scheduled to take place at Doda Sports Stadium, is a significant moment as the region gears up for voting in eight Assembly seats on September 18.
During the last assembly elections in 2014, Modi’s rally in Kishtwar played a pivotal role in helping the BJP secure four out of six seats. With delimitation increasing the number of seats in the region to eight, the stakes are even higher this time around.
The rally also sets the stage for PM Modi’s broader campaign in the UT. After Doda, he is scheduled to address another rally in Srinagar on September 19 as part of the party’s phased election strategy, with voting taking place on September 18, 25, and October 1. This election is particularly historic, marking the first after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Meanwhile, security reviews are ongoing. Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander Northern Command, visited critical areas to assess the operational readiness of troops in the region, ensuring that the situation remains stable ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
The upcoming elections in J&K will not only determine the political landscape of the region but also mark a significant chapter in its post-Article 370 era, with all eyes now on PM Modi’s rally in Doda as the campaign heats up.
