Police Bust Black Market Racket in Shopian, Seize 2200 Litres of Illegal Fuel.

Shopian,jan04:-In a significant crackdown on black marketing, the District Police Shopian seized 2200 litres of illegal kerosene oil and diesel during a raid in the Karlcheck Berthipora area. Acting on a tip-off about unauthorized fuel sales, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Keller, in coordination with the Duty Officer Berthipora and an Executive Magistrate, conducted a search at the shop of Showkat Ahmad Hajam, a resident of Karlcheck Berthipora.

The raid resulted in the seizure of 11 barrels containing 1600 litres of kerosene oil and 600 litres of diesel. A case under FIR No. 02/2025 U/S 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered at Police Station Keller. The accused, Showkat Ahmad Hajam, has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.

Preliminary findings suggest that the accused was involved in selling subsidized kerosene oil illegally in the black market. Authorities are also investigating the source of procurement of the subsidized fuel and have assured strict action against any officials found complicit in facilitating this illegal trade.

The police have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal activities and urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their area. Community cooperation is crucial in maintaining law and order and preventing such crimes.
