Press Freedom Stronger Democracy

Srinagar: On World Press Freedom Day – 3rd May
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Mohammad Faheem Reshi, Social-Political Activist, Contested Candidate from 25-Eidgah Constituency, and Chairman of Greater Shah-re-Khaas, extends his heartfelt greetings to journalists, media professionals, and citizens.

A free and independent press is the backbone of a strong and vibrant democracy. It plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and the right to information for every citizen. Journalists are the voice of the people, and their work helps bring truth to light, even in the most challenging circumstances.
Mohammad Faheem Reshi emphasized that safeguarding press freedom is not just the responsibility of institutions, but of society as a whole. Respecting diverse opinions, encouraging honest reporting, and protecting journalists from any form of pressure or intimidation are essential steps toward a just and progressive society.
He further stated that in regions like Shah-re-Khaas, where people’s issues often need stronger representation, the role of responsible journalism becomes even more important. A fearless press can highlight grassroots concerns, amplify public voices, and contribute to meaningful development.
On this day, he called upon the youth, civil society, and all stakeholders to stand united in support of independent journalism and uphold the principles of truth, trust, and freedom.
“Let us work together to protect the freedom of the press and strengthen the foundation of our democracy.”
