Quality Control Drive of Handicrafts Department Targets Machine-Made Carpets

Srinagar, Aug 23 : The Quality Control Wing of Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir, with robust support from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, conducted a significant drive today to combat the pervasive issue of machine-made carpets being falsely marketed as handmade in Munawarabad area of Srinagar city. This operation targeted various showrooms suspected of engaging in deceptive practices.
During the drive, officials seized several machine-made carpets that were being misrepresented as authentic handmade products. The department has issued a stern warning to showroom owners to cease and desist from such misleading practices. Department urged the people in general and tourists in particular to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of carpets before purchase.

Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir had previously uncovered serious concerns regarding deceptive practices in high-traffic tourist areas, prompting today’s decisive action. The department is committed to ensuring transparency and preserving the integrity of the traditional handicraft sector.
Department will continue to monitor and enforce regulations rigorously. Future drives are planned to uphold the authenticity of Kashmiri handicrafts and protect consumer interests.
