Vilgam 19 Dec 2025: Rashid Shafi from Vilgam village in Kupwara district was felicitated by locals after he won a GOLD medal at the 7th Nordic Open Wushu Championship held in Sweden, making the village and the entire region proud.
During the felicitation ceremony, coach Mr Ajaz expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army’s Vilgam Army Camp for extending crucial support during Rashid’s early formative years. He said the encouragement and facilities provided by the Army played a vital role in shaping and channelising the talent of Rashid, as well as many other local youths.
Speakers at the event urged young people to draw inspiration from Rashid’s remarkable achievement on the world stage, highlighting that his success is a result of hard work, perseverance, discipline, and resilience. They emphasised that limited resources should never limit the ambition of any youth, and dedication can overcome all challenges.
The people of Vilgam village expressed immense happiness and pride, celebrating Rashid Shafi’s victory as a collective achievement and a shining example for the younger generation.
