Only 3 candidates contesting from Srigufwara-Bijbehara
Srinagar, Sep 7: The eight constituencies in Srinagar going to polls in the second phases of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on September 25 are all set to witness a tight competition as the highest number of candidates are vying from these seats while Habba Kadal has topped the list with 17 candidates.
As per the details available, the forms of 99 candidates have been accepted from the eight seats of Srinagar, who are vying for different seats in the second phase of the polls.
In eight constituencies, a total of 49 independent candidates including those of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) are vying for the eight assembly seats.
The highest number of 17 candidates including seven independent candidates are in the electoral fray from Habba Kadal constituency, the data gathered by The Morning Kashmir.
Central-Shalteng and Eidgah constituencies will be witnessing the contest of highest number of eight independent candidates each while in Lal Chowk five independents are contesting the polls, three from Chanapora, seven from Zadibal, five from Hazratbal and six from Khanyar.
Besides, the lowest number of candidates are vying from the Srigufwara-Bijbehara seat, where only three candidates including PDP’s Iltija Mufti, NC’s Bashir Ahmad Veeri and BJP’s Sofi Yousuf are contesting.
Pertinently, the three-phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be conducted from September 18 while Srinagar will go to the polls on September 25.
Besides, the counting of votes will take place on October 08.
