Astrologer and spiritual speaker Shivashree Ritu Singh, popularly known as Astrologer Ritu Singh, has shared her views on the ongoing discussion surrounding spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj and his association with Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. Ritu defended the Vrindavan-based spiritual figure and said that his popularity, in her view, should not be attributed to celebrity connections. Her comments come amid wider conversations about spirituality, public personalities and the influence of celebrities.
Ritu said that she has a strong connection with Vrindavan and is familiar with the spiritual environment there. Addressing claims and discussions surrounding Premanand Maharaj, she said, “Mein Vrindavan se bahut zyada judi hui hoon aur jaanti hoon ki Premanand Maharaj Ji personally kabhi kisi ko paise dekar nahi bulate. Unhe Virat Kohli ya kisi aur influencer ki zarurat nahi hai.” According to Ritu, the spiritual leader’s following has developed because of his simplicity, spiritual teachings and the affection of devotees rather than because of celebrity associations.
She also questioned the idea that people would be motivated to follow a spiritual figure merely after seeing a celebrity visit or interact with them. Referring specifically to Virat Kohli, Ritu asked whether people would choose to visit Premanand Maharaj only because of the cricketer’s association or whether their own faith and understanding would lead them towards a spiritual path. “Kya aap Virat Kohli ko dekhkar hi Premanand Maharaj ke paas jaana pasand karenge? Ya aapki swayam ki buddhi bhi aapko ek saatvik marg par le jaane ke liye aakarshit karti hai?” she said.
Ritu also spoke about what she described as a broader pattern of criticism directed towards Hinduism and religious gurus. She said she believes allegations against Premanand Maharaj are part of a wider discussion that should be considered carefully. “Pichhle kuch saalon se lagataar Hindu dharm aur dharm gurus ko lekar ek tarah ka propaganda aur political attacks dekhne ko mil rahe hain,” she said, adding that she believes attempts to damage the image of a spiritual leader can also affect perceptions of the broader Sanatan tradition.
