Sopore, March 14, 2026: Sopore Police foiled a timber smuggling attempt during night patrolling in village Shutloo under the jurisdiction of Police Station Panzalla.
During the operation, police intercepted suspected timber smugglers transporting illicit timber. Taking advantage of darkness, the smugglers managed to flee from the spot, leaving behind 14 logs of illegally felled timber along with a horse used for transportation.
The seized timber and the horse have been taken into police custody.
Accordingly, FIR No. 13/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Forest Act has been registered at Police Station Panzalla, and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the persons involved.
Sopore Police reiterate their commitment to taking strict action against timber smuggling and other unlawful activities affecting natural resources.
