Srinagar Breaks Barriers: Voter Turnout Hits 30% for the First Time in 30 Years

Srinagar, Oct 2: The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, might  have recorded the lowest turnout in the assembly elections-2024, but the poll percentage this year has surpassed the previous figures of voter turnout.
The details available reveals that Srinagar has for the first time voted in large numbers with figures surpassing the previous turnouts of three decades.

Since the 1996 assembly elections, it is the first time that the figure has crossed the 30 per cent mark.
According to the details, the lowest turnout in Srinagar has been recorded in 2002 Legislative Assembly  polls with only 5.06 per cent voters casting their ballots.\\
However, 2024 has topped the list with 30.08 poll percentage.
In 1996, Srinagar recorded the poll percentage of  19.24 per cent with a total of 91526 electorates casting their ballots out of a total  4,75,710 eligible voters.
However, in 2002 when the lowest ever poll percentage was recorded with 30,697 voters polling out of a total 6,05,255 eligible voters.
In 2008, the district witnessed 21.57 voter turnout when a total of 121515 voters turned up at polling stations out of 5,60,668 eligible voters.
The district witnessed a bit more enthusiasm as the voter turnout increased further from just 21 per cent to 27 per cent. The total poll percentage in 2014 Legislative  Assembly was recorded at 27.75 per cent, which increased further in the 2024 elections at 30.08 per cent.
Thus, the poll percentage has gone up for the first time in Srinagar and crossed 30 per cent mark in assembly elections.
