SSP Traffic Rural Jammu reviews traffic regulation scenario in Rajouri, Poonch Districts

 JAMMU, NOVEMBER 29: After joining as SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, G.L Sharma visited Rajouri and Poonch districts to have firsthand experience of Traffic related issues in the twin border districts.

During the visit, he interacted with civil society members, transporters and other stakeholders.  He also interacted and briefed the officers/officials of traffic Rural deployed in District Rajouri and Poonch.

During the briefing, instructions were given to the officers/officials to regulate & manage the traffic in such a manner that the common man does not suffer due to traffic congestion or mismanagement.  They were directed to enforce the provisions of MV Act/rules to curb menace of traffic violations.

 Instructions to use the equipment issued to the deployed traffic personnel like body worn cameras, Fluorescent jackets, traffic Signal rods, speed radar guns, noise pollution device and Breath Analyzers.

Additionally, they were directed to conduct awareness programmes in the institutions like schools, colleges, universities and at general public locations (towns & villages) with particular emphasis to aware drivers, transporters, shopkeepers etc.  They were instructed to have close coordination with the executive police and the civil administration for smooth and hassle free vehicular movement in their area of jurisdictions. Special emphasis was laid on minimizing road mishaps and loss of human lives.

Later, he held a meeting with SSP Rajouri and SSP Poonch and discussed the traffic issues in their respective districts. Measures to improve the traffic related management in coordination with district Police and district administration were also discussed which will be implemented on ground in coming days.

At Poonch, SSP Poonch  Shafqat Hussain,  alongwith  his team  and SSP Traffic Rural Jammu accompanied by Dy. SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch and his team had a round of the Poonch town to assess the issues related to the traffic management at different locations including the old bazaar and bus stand.

The issues and their solutions were discussed in detail thereafter. Meanwhile, locals of the Poonch town including the media persons interacted and shared their views.

During the visit, the SSP assessed the road condition of the under construction NH-144A  from Bhambla (Sunderbani to Poonch).

The bottleneck points and the accident hotspots were also assessed and directions were issued to field officers to take corrective measures to avoid the accidents and the congestion of the traffic.

It was decided that the matter would be taken up with the construction agencies to plug the loopholes and take all necessary measures like installation of reflectors, warning boards, diversion etc at appropriate places which would help drivers to assess the road condition well in time while driving, particularly during the night and bad weather conditions.

A well coordinated effort, involving all the stakeholders shall be taken to reduce the accidents and loss of precious lives and management of the traffic in a way to minimize the congestion and hassle free vehicular movement for the commuters.
