St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, Hosts Grand Annual Sports Meet

Baramulla, August 9, 2025 — St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, came alive with energy, excitement, and sportsmanship as it hosted its Annual Sports Meet with a record participation of nearly 1,200 young athletes from Classes 2 to 5. The event was held in two sessions: the morning session for Classes 4 & 5 and the evening session for Classes 3 & 2, turning the school grounds into a vibrant celebration of talent and teamwork.

The day began with note of Principal Fr. Suresh Britto who said in his opening address, filled with words of wisdom and encouragement, set an inspiring tone for the day’s festivities. Highlighting the role of sports in shaping young minds, he reminded everyone that “Sports not only build physical strength but also teach our students resilience, leadership, and the spirit of fair play.”

The event was graced by two esteemed Chief Guests — Mr. Altaf Ahmad Khan, DySP Baramulla, and Mr. Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla — whose presence inspired the students to strive for excellence. Adding further honour to the occasion were the Guests of Honour — Syed Owais Geelani, SHO Baramulla, and Farhana Showkat, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla — who commended the school for its dedication to nurturing physical fitness alongside academic growth.

In his address, Mr. Altaf Ahmad Khan spoke passionately about the need for collective efforts toward eradicating drug abuse from Baramulla town, stressing how sports can be a powerful tool in keeping youth engaged in positive and healthy pursuits. The Guests of Honour also encouraged the students wholeheartedly, praising their energy, discipline, and team spirit.

The day featured a wide range of track and field events, fun races, and team competitions that brought out both competitive spirit and camaraderie among students. The young athletes displayed exceptional determination, discipline, and enthusiasm, making every race and game a thrilling spectacle for parents, teachers, and peers.

Adding a special spark to the event were the parents’ competitions, which drew enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. Male parents participated in a furious, funny, and high-energy Tug of War, while female parents competed in a lemon-and-spoon race that was equally thrilling and competitive. These moments showcased not only the athletic zeal of the parents but also the school’s focus on community involvement and togetherness.

The event concluded with a medal and certificate distribution ceremony, where the winners were applauded for their achievements and all participants were praised for their effort and sportsmanship. The Annual Sports Meet reaffirmed St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School’s commitment to fostering all-round development and creating lasting memories for its students.
