Stranded Amarnath Yatris Rescued by Indian Army Amid Torrential Rain on Baltal Route

Baltal | July 18, 2025: Stories continue to pour in of the Indian Army’s tireless efforts in rescuing stranded Amarnath yatris on the treacherous Baltal route during the inclement night of July 16. Relentless rainfall triggered multiple landslides, leaving many pilgrims stranded at dangerously high altitudes and in distressing conditions.

In these testing circumstances, the Indian Army rose to the occasion with swift, selfless action, offering shelter, food, and reassurance to the affected yatris. Each rescued pilgrim expressed heartfelt gratitude to the brave soldiers — a sentiment echoed across numerous accounts of the night.

Among them were two women from Indore, Madhya Pradesh — Smt Priti Nigam and Smt Padmini Puri — who were provided safe shelter in Army tents at Brarimarg. Overwhelmed by the compassion and care shown by the soldiers, the two women crafted makeshift rakhis from available wildflowers and tied them on the wrists of their rescuers — a touching gesture of sisterly affection and profound gratitude.

This early celebration of Raksha Bandhan became an unforgettable moment for the soldiers, who, despite the harsh weather and personal hardship, upheld their commitment to the safety and well-being of their fellow citizens.

These acts of courage, empathy, and unwavering dedication are what continue to set the Indian Army apart — not just as protectors of the nation, but as guardians of its spirit.
