SRINAGAR, Nov 12: A 45-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a grenade attack at Srinagar’s Sunday Market, officials confirmed today. The victim, identified as Abida Lone, wife of Zubair Ahmad Lone from Sumbal Bandipora, had been undergoing treatment at SMHS Hospital for the past ten days.
The incident occurred when terrorists hurled a grenade at a CRPF mobile bunker near the Traffic Regulation Center (TRC). The grenade missed its intended target and exploded on the road, which was crowded with flea market customers. Eleven other people were also injured in the blast.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir VK Birdi announced last week that three suspects have been arrested from Ikrajpora Rajbagh area of Srinagar in connection with the attack. According to a senior police official, the arrested individuals were associates of the LeT outfit and had carried out the attack under directions from handlers based in Pakistan.
Police have confirmed that a case was previously registered and investigations are ongoing.
The victim passed away around noon today at SMHS Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment since the attack.
