Supreme Court collegium recommends Justice Arun Palli for elevation as SC judge

Srinagar, May 27 : The Supreme Court collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India, has recommended the appointment of Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, as a judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Palli is presently also holding charge as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justice Arun Palli was born on 18 September 1964 in Patiala, Punjab. He comes from a distinguished legal family-his father, Justice Prem Kishan Palli, served on the Himachal Pradesh High Court, while his grandfather and great-grandfather were noted lawyers in Patiala.

As per the details with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he graduated in Commerce and completed his LL.B. from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1988, before beginning practice at the Punjab & Haryana High Court. Over the years, he built expertise in civil, criminal, constitutional, revenue, industrial, and labour law.

Justice Palli served as Additional Advocate General for Punjab (2004-2007) and was designated a Senior Advocate in 2007. He was elevated as a judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court in December 2013, and confirmed as a permanent judge in 2014.

He has also held key positions such as Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority and Member of the Governing Body of NALSA. On 16 April 2025, he took oath as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.—(KNO)
