Kishtwar, Feb 22, 2026: An encounter broke out between terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed and security forces in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar on Sunday.
Official sources said a top JeM commander was killed in the gunfight during a joint operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police, 2 ParaSF, Indian Army and CRPF.
However, the body of the slain terrorist has not yet been retrieved due to the difficult terrain and the ongoing operation.
Sources said the top commander had managed to escape on several times during previous encounters.
The area has been cordoned off, and search operations are continuing to rule out the presence of any other terrorists.
