Tulip Tumult: Riot of colours to mesmerize Srinagar on March 23

Srinagar, Mar 18: Srinagar is preparing for one of its most vibrant and anticipated annual events – the opening of the iconic Tulip Garden on March 23rd. With nearly five new tulip varieties added this year, bringing the total to an impressive 73, the garden promises to be a mesmerizing spectacle of colors and fragrances that will dazzle visitors from near and far.
Situated along the picturesque banks of Dal Lake in the foothills of the Zabarwan mountains, the Tulip Garden has become a symbol of Srinagar’s spring renaissance. When in full bloom, the garden’s breathtaking display of 1.7 million tulips attracts locals and tourists alike, eager to immerse themselves in the natural splendor.
Floriculture officials have been working tirelessly to ensure the garden is in pristine condition for its grand opening. Gardeners can be seen meticulously preparing flower beds, clearing weeds, and aerating the soil to provide the ideal environment for the tulips to thrive.
“The garden will be thrown open on March 23, and people will experience a mesmerizing bloom; currently, we are on the job with our people ensuring the finishing touches,” said a Floriculture Officer.
Last year, the Tulip Garden welcomed a staggering 3.77 lakh visitors in just 30 days, and officials anticipate surpassing this record in 2024 as the garden’s reputation continues to grow. “We are anticipating a big increase in the arrival of tourists to the Tulip Garden this year compared to last year, and preparations are in full swing in this regard,” the official added.
In addition to the stunning floral display, visitors can look forward to various enhancements to the garden’s infrastructure. The department has expanded the parking area by adding another four kanals of land, ensuring a smooth and convenient experience for all guests.
The Tulip Garden’s recent inclusion in the World Book of Records is a source of immense pride for Srinagar and a testament to the garden’s role in boosting the region’s tourism sector. With civil works such as facelifting, toilet facilities, lighting systems, and illumination ongoing, the garden promises to be a truly enchanting destination this spring.
As the countdown to the grand opening continues, Srinagar eagerly awaits the opportunity to showcase its floral magnificence to the world, inviting all to witness the breathtaking beauty of the Tulip Garden in full bloom.
The garden was built in 2008 during the term of then chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad. The garden was made to attract more tourists to the Valley during the spring season. Last year, the garden was included in the World Book of Records (London) as Asia’s largest Tulip Garden.
