World Environment Day: Hema Malini appealed to people to switch off their Air Conditioners for two hours

Mathura, June 5- Lok Sabha MP Hema Malini appealed to people to switch off their Air Conditioners for two hours on the 5th of June to raise awareness for rising global temperatures. She stresses the need for awareness among citizens towards the environment . She is hopeful that by preserving the environment we may get back to Mathura City of Lord Krishna’s time.
The Social Forestry Division is developing Asia’s largest city Forest Saubhari and Saubhari Vistar in Vrindavan covering approximately 150 Hectares area. The forest also has 2 water bodies.

“More than 76 thousand saplings are already planted,” DFO Rajni Kant Mittal said. The forest will serve as an oxygen duct for the city and will have Peepal, Bargad, kadamb, Jamun, Arjun, and Ber as major species, he added.
The forest will revive 12 vans and 24 upvans of Lord Krishna’s time, DFO said.
The Social Forestry division is also developing a wetland called Jodhpur Jhal, in Jodhpur village which will give a major boost to the conservation and enhancement of the ecological system.
The wetland is enhancing biodiversity in the region and is regularly visited by major species of birds like Greater Flamingo, common Teal, Black Wing stilt, Pintail Duck, Rosy Pintail, Indian Crane, DFO Rajni Kant Mittal said.
District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh initiated another scheme to develop a sense of responsibility and inclusiveness among all stakeholders.
“The scheme called Plastic Mukt Brij ki Raj Abhiyan (Soil of Brij Bhumi free form plastic) covers 123 villages, collects plastic waste from Rural households, and recycles them at a minimal cost of one rupees per day, ” he said.
“This scheme intended to address one major challenge of waste collection- segregating the waste,” DM Chandra Prakash Singh said. “A household keeps plastic separately from other waste and the same is collected by Panchayats in vans with dedicated chambers for dry and wet waste. In this way it helps in habit forming of segregating waste at source,” he added.
He said that the waste is taken to Kachra se Kanchan Kendra (waste to wealth Centre) of the village, from where it is sent to the Plastic Waste Management unit for recycling.
In barely a month of operation the scheme was joined by 15 thousand households and resulted in a collection of more than 5 Tons of Plastic waste, the District Magistrate said.
SSP Mathura Shlok Kumar said that Mathura Police is also Adopting sustainable practices at police premises.
“All new units are coming with a water harvesting facility and Work to install solar panels in all the buildings is underway and is expected to be complete within a year,” he added.
Nagar Nigam is also running a CSR Purna-Unnanti ki sajhedaari with the PepsiCo foundation to transform Mathura Vrindavan into a clean city with an inclusive model for solid and plastic waste management, said Nagar Ayukt Jag Pravesh.

He said that the Introduction of Eco-friendly biodegradable carry bags, the introduction of CNG and electric vehicles into the waste collection system to reduce carbon footprints, and Increased IT usage to reduce paper usage are other initiatives taken by Nagar Nigam.
He said that Nagar Nigam has engaged Youth through Project Mathura where youth from diverse backgrounds contribute to environment conservation efforts. “Various Higher education institutes are participating under the Swachh Saarthi club to let youth actively participate in cleanliness and sanitation-related activities, ” he added.

Indian oil’s Mathura Refinery partners with the national mission for clean Ganga and UP Jal Nigam to use treated effluent from sewage treatment plants for refinery operation, resulting in significant reduction in fresh water usage for industrial purposes, Mukul Agrawal Executive Director Mathura Refinery said.

“The Refiner has also developed an ecological park using treated effluent water with the presence of 100 species of birds including some migratory birds and 45 varieties of trees and shrubs,” he said. The refinery will plant 10 thousand trees by august 2025.
