31,830 vacancies filled in govt sector in J&K since Aug 2019

SRINAGAR, DEC 07: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has successfully filled a total of 31,830 vacancies, including those in the J&K Bank, in the government sector since August 2019, as revealed in a reply given in the Rajya Sabha.

This move is part of the government’s commitment to addressing unemployment and creating opportunities for the youth in J&K.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs highlighted various measures taken by the government to boost employment opportunities for the youth:

The reply states that the implementation of self-employment schemes across various sectors has been a cornerstone of the government’s strategy.

This initiative aims to establish sustainable income-generating ventures for unemployed youth, with a remarkable 7.4 lakh self-employment and livelihood opportunities generated or strengthened since the year 2021-22.

The introduction of schemes such as Mumkin, Tejaswani, and Spurring Entrepreneurship under Mission Youth underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the establishment of business units and sustainable livelihood projects, including those in the transport sector.

Job fairs and placement drives at both divisional and district levels have provided a crucial platform for unemployed youth and potential employers, enhancing job placement opportunities. Over the last two years, 151 job fairs were conducted, with a total of 1631 companies participating.

Skill development programs introduced in FY 2023-24 aim to bridge the skill gaps among the youth, ensuring that they are better prepared for the evolving job market.

The reply states that between 2020 and 2023 (up to October), a significant number of candidates—4,74,464 in career counseling sessions and 2,12,109 in awareness campus for career guidance—have benefited from initiatives aimed at shaping their career paths.

The government has undertaken governance reforms, including transparent large-scale recruitment drives, following the reorganization. The Accelerated Recruitment Committee, constituted in 2020, oversees public sector recruitment.

The “YOGYATA SE ROZGAR” drive places a strong emphasis on merit-based selections, ensuring a transparent, equitable, and fair recruitment process. To streamline the process, interviews for posts up to and including Pay Level 5, and some in Pay Level 6, have been dispensed with to enhance transparency and speed, it said. These initiatives collectively reflect the government’s commitment to tackling unemployment and creating a conducive environment for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir to thrive in various sectors.
