3,77,045 households electrified in J&K in 5 years

SRINAGAR, DEC 06: The Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, RK Singh, revealed in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha that the Saubhagya Scheme, initiated by the Government of India in October 2017, has successfully electrified 3,77,045 households in Jammu and Kashmir over the last five years.
As per the report from the states, a total of 2.82 crore households were electrified nationwide until March 31, 2021, under the Saubhagya Scheme. An additional 4.43 lakh households were electrified through the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), bringing the total to 2.86 crore households covered by the Government’s initiative until March 31, 2022.

Minister Singh highlighted that from October 11, 2017, to March 31, 2019, 3,77,045 households in Jammu and Kashmir benefited from the Saubhagya Scheme, while no households in the region were sanctioned under DDUGJY.
In response to another query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister Singh reported that Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 177.98 crore funds for Hydropower Projects during the fiscal year 2022-23. Additionally, funds were allocated for various other projects, including Rs 1.25 crore for rooftop, Rs 15.69 crore under PM Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan, Rs 150 crore for Small Hydro Project, and Rs 11.04 crore for solar off-grid.
When questioned about the status of the Solar Energy policy in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that the region has generated 54.98 MegaWatts of energy so far. He emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting solar energy development, citing the launch of the National Solar Mission (NSM) in January 2010, which introduced various schemes over time to encourage solar energy development nationwide.
