400 Kg Rotten Meat Found Thrown Along Roadside near Pampore; Safely Disposed off by Authorities

PAMPORE, August 06: Around 400 kilograms of packed rotten meat was found recklessly thrown along the roadside near Pul Par Kadlabal, area of Police  Jurisdiction Kakapora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

According to officials from the Food Safety Department, unknown individuals hurled the spoiled meat on the road’s edge, creating panic among locals due to the foul smell and risk of contamination. The incident points to gross negligence and violation of food safety regulations by unidentified miscreants.

Acting promptly, a team led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Pulwama, Hilal Ahmad Mir, along with SHO Syed Showkat Ahmad and other officials, reached the site and ensured the safe and hygienic disposal of the decomposed meat as per protocol, officials told Morning Kashmir.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for throwing the meat in such an unsafe manner. “This is a serious act of irresponsibility. The culprits will be traced, and legal action will follow,” he said.

Speaking to Morning Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Department, Hilal Ahmad Mir, said that over the past few days, pressure has been mounting on those bringing meat products from outside. As a result of this pressure, today we witnessed an incident in the Pul Par Kadlabal area of Police Jurisdiction Kakapora, where someone had dumped packs of meat by the roadside. The concerned police station collected the meat from the location, and it was properly disposed of by our department.

The issue is that when our department, in coordination with the police, started exerting pressure on these individuals, only then did such actions become possible. The pressure has become so intense that if they now possess any kind of meat that is unlabeled or improperly stored, they are beginning to destroy it themselves.

I appeal to the general public, especially the consumers. If they have any complaints regarding the quality of food items, they can register their complaints on our toll-free number, which we have already shared through the media — 104. We will address their complaints immediately.

This is an ongoing process, and our department is actively working on it. Just yesterday, we held a meeting under the directions of Secretary Abid Rasid Sahab and our Commissioner Madam. They have instructed strict action against those individuals who are running such businesses in an unregulated manner. We are committed to taking swift action and ensuring that only safe and hygienic food reaches our consumers.

I also appeal to the public — if anyone is aware of any such business operating improperly, please bring it to our notice immediately.
