Srinagar, Nov 15: Nine people including policemen died and over two dozens others were injured in an accidental explosion inside police station Nowgam in Srinagar, officials said on Saturday.
They told GNS that the blast took place while police personnel and FSL team were conducting an inspection of some explosives inside the police station Nowgam in presence of executive magistrate late Friday night. Nine people, mostly policemen, have died while more than two dozen others were injured in the explosion.
They said that death toll may rise given the fact that the condition of some of the injured is stated to be serious.
Besides casualties, massive damage has been caused to the police station infrastructure, official records and vehicles parked near it.
The explosion took place while officials from police as well as FSL were extracting samples from massive cache of explosives recovered recently from Faridabad area in Haryana in connection with recent terror module busted by the J&K Police. So far there has been no official statement regarding the incident. (GNS)
